Dust

This morning as I was spending time with God in His Word, I came across this passage:

The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven. As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven. ~ 1 Corinthians 15:47-49

The word dust stood out to me as I was reading this. We were created from dust. In Genesis 1 we see an account of God's creating something out of nothing. It says in verse 2 that "the earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep." It's crazy for me to think about how as humans we were created completely from the dust of the earth. This passage talks about how we are earthly creatures. We were created from dust, and we will return to the earth as dust.

This life is meaningless without Christ. When we die our earthly bodies become like the dust but our souls transcend to heaven with Christ where we enjoy life eternal with Him. We have no promise of this eternal life until we become one with Christ and once we accept Him, we can be sure that we will return to heaven with Him at the end of life. This is why it is so important for Christians to focus on Him while we have this opportunity to live for Him on this earth.

James 4:14 says it perfectly: "yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes." We need to take advantage of this life we've been given. We need to focus on what is important: God, family, friends, and remember that we were made of dust. We are like a mist that is here for now, but when we're gone, we're gone. We only get one chance. Isaiah 64:6 says this: "We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away." Call it depressing, but it's reality. One day we will fade like a leaf, the memories that people have of us will slowly vanish, and sooner or later our bodies will turn back to dust.

So my question to everyone is this: Are you living as if you were invincible and made out of something more brilliant than dust? Lets humble ourselves each morning and start each day off focused on what is of the most importance.
